The story arc of GreenPolicy360, in its span and scope, tracks back to the late 1960s when Steve Schmidt, our founder and current siterunner, began to work alongside a new Congressman from East Los Angeles, Rep. George E. Brown. Their work as detailed in GreenPolicy360 reveals a narrative and scientific journey into the origins, development, Earth Science and political activism that helped set in motion the modern environmental movement.
Connecting & sharing world changing stories
"GreenPolicy360 journeys across 50+ years of the modern environmental movement"
Today's challenges come into the light as a half century journey of key players, events, struggles, and decisions are revealed. Green politics and the modern environmental movement have progressed far from first-era Whole Earth images of the 1960s and a first "Earth Day" of 1970.
GreenPolicy360 speaks of green, life affirming values, "a politics of values" that we see as needed "for the long run" as humanity navigates the challenges and demands of the 21st century.
The media is welcome onboard. Search & explore GreenPolicy360's curated collection of stories from around the world.

The recent U.S. elections have produced a 'turn-back-the-clock caucus' in Congress. The resulting efforts to roll back environmental laws passed with success over the yrs will present a challenge to profound green progress. We should consider again the beginning of the green era in the U.S. and successive accomplishments in law and practice that clearly deserve to be built upon, not to be dismantled by retro-policies.

GreenPolicy360 highlights George Brown Jr.
Recently we highlighted the remarkable work of Rebecca Moore.
Rebecca envisioned setting up Google Outreach -- and she did.
GP360 Siterunner: Rebecca had an idea how to save trees around her home and her idea led to setting up Google Outreach - She had a great idea, she made it happen, she is continuing to make it happen.
Each day there's new progress, local and global... Global Forest Watch & Global Fishing Watch are two most recent successful launches. Here's a tip of our green hat to Rebecca's 'planet citizen' work.

NASA continues to advance a new space era in its exploration of our home planet with the launch of series of #EarthScience instruments to the International Space Station.
New earth-observing array of instruments will be exterior mounted on the #ISS. ISS-RapidScat will monitor ocean winds for climate research, weather predictions and hurricane monitoring. The second instrument, the laser Cloud-Aerosol Transport System (CATS), will measure clouds and location and distribution of pollution, dust, smoke, and other particulates in the atmosphere. #RapidScat [17] #EarthRightNow

Remembering 'Earthrise' - December 1968
Earthrise memories on the 45th anniversary - Earth-home, the historic view of Earth from Apollo
"The earth from here [circling the moon] is a grand oasis in the big vastness of space." — Jim Lovell, live Apollo 8 - 1968
"If somebody had said before the flight, 'Are you going to get carried away looking at the earth from the moon?' I would have said, 'No, no way.' But yet when I first looked back at the earth, standing on the moon, I cried." — Alan Shepard, Astronaut
"As you pass from sunlight into darkness and back again every hour and a half, you become startlingly aware how artificial are thousands of boundaries we've created to separate and define. And for the first time in your life you feel in your gut the precious unity of the Earth and all the living things it supports." — Russell Schweikart, Apollo 9
"As we got further and further away, it [the Earth] diminished in size. Finally it shrank to the size of a marble, the most beautiful you can imagine. That beautiful, warm, living object looked so fragile, so delicate..." — James Irwin, Apollo 15
Overview Effect
What a View!
Overview refers to the experience of seeing firsthand the reality of the Earth in space, which is immediately understood to be a tiny, fragile ball of life, hanging in the void, shielded and nourished by a paper-thin atmosphere. From space, the astronauts tell us, national boundaries vanish, the conflicts that divide us become less important and the need to create a planetary society with the united will to protect our "pale blue dot."

Environmental Security ↔ National Security
Update / May 1, 2015: Earth Science setback in US Congress: Deep Cuts
- Strategic Demands ↔ GreenPolicy360
Strategic Demands, in association with GreenPolicy360, continues its work to advance "Environmental Security" as a critical field of global concern and study...
The position of our associated organization is that Environmental Security should be integral to National Security and Global Security
Both of our communities are pursuing a broad range of security issues, in particular #digital advances in #EarthScience, #NewSpace and the sustainable health of our planet's biosphere and atmosphere
In the past, the field of National Security was limited. Nation's considered military and strategic affairs of primary concern and placed environmental concerns as secondary in the pursuit of security. The gathering issues, problems, and even existential threats of environmental disruption due to climate change, nuclear proliferation, and related 'cross border' international threats require "New Definitions of National Security."' We intend to continue to pursue connections between National Security and Environmental Security. Clearly interdisciplinary changes in academic thinking, and political action are urgently required to bring both the professional/business community and citizens closer to sustainable security and 'green best practices

GP360-About Us
GreenPolicy360 provides green best practices, news and updates, and an online database which lists local/global policies and successful examples -- legislation/proposals/resolutions/ordinances/concepts -- of green values in practice. Our database is growing. We've experienced millions of page visits. Our Introduction Video explains how we started.
We are an eco-network, a system designed for online sharing, a distributive web of green best practices.
GreenPolicy360 was developed for use in all communities, local, national, international. GreenPolicy lets you know how other communities are dealing with many of the key public policy issues of yesterday, today and tomorrow. If you're working to craft similar green legislation/proposals/resolutions/ordinances/concepts for your local community, or you just want to get an idea of best practices that might be possible, you can use the models and templates here, copy and paste what has worked in other communities and locations and modify to your own needs. "Think and act global and local!"
BTW, GreenPolicy360 is also an excellent reference source for students and online education. With a wide array of topics, GreenPolicy360 will save you time and energy as you look to learn about and become engaged in work to improve your community and our world. Whatever country you are in, you can learn from best practices from your region, bioregion or similar regions. Rather than spend hours and hours trying to locate source material, you can find many models and examples of what you're looking for right here, right now.
How to Use this Site
Our team has worked very hard to make it easy for you to find what you're looking for! We've created many tools for you to use as outlined below.
1) Browse our All Pages Index
- The All Pages Index is broken down into categories and lists every single entry in GreenPolicy360.
2) Google Maps
3) Browse/Search GreenPolicy360 through the use of a wide variety of categories
- Have you stopped by to see if you can find models for green policy in your community or are you interested in discovering green ideas of what might be possible to introduce in your community or region or country even?
- Use this link to view all the topics we presently cover (e.g., Peace, Housing, Youth, etc.)
- Use this link to search by location (e.g., U.S. States, etc.)
- Use this link to view by entity type (e.g., City Governments, School Districts, etc.)
- Use this link to view by type of legislation (e.g., ordinances, resolutions, etc.).
- Use this link to see all Notable Cities, and Notable Colleges
- Use this link to peruse all the categories in use on GreenPolicy360.
4) Searching the site on your own terms
- Simply enter your search words in the box to the left and click on Policy Search. You can enter subject words, place names, anything you want, and in any combination you want. Please be aware that searches must be at least three characters long. The database will not search for two-character search strings.
5) A Note about the "background info" tab
- As we continue to develop the various capabilities of GreenPolicy360, it is our intent to provide you with more background information in the form of summaries, analyses, news article, interviews and first person narratives.
- To know whether or not any given entry possesses background information, all you need to identify is the color of the tab. If the tab has blue lettering, then the entry does include background information. If the tab has red lettering, it means that it does NOT include background information...yet.
6) For editing/text formatting help, review these Wiki markup guides: [179] [180] [181] [182] [183] [184] [185]
7) For adding Green Graphics: Recommended graphic sizes for formatting can be found here.
Add your Ideas, Add a Keyword, 'Tag a Topic'
Is there a category that you think should be included in our database that isn't? If so, email us your category suggestions - [email protected].
Consult the User's Guide for information on using this wiki software.
