Space science begins by carefully observing and experiencing the home planet -- earth, the "blue planet"

@ GreenPolicy360, our space science/physics focus is on creating and developing the "democratization of space" and the field of "environmental security" with a special emphasis on earth science from space.

"New Space" is in its first stages and it's an exciting time to be a Planet Citizen and sharing citizen science with a focus from space on #Earth360...

Fleets of micro-satellites and start-up companies pioneering the exploration and study of earth and earth's resources from the vantage point of space offer critically important data.

Unprecedented digital connectivity, networking and availability of data via World Wide Net/Internet make possible nextgen #EarthScience from space.

The SAO/NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) is a Digital Library portal for researchers in Astronomy and Physics, operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) under a NASA grant.

The ADS corpus consists of 10 million bibliographic records, over 70 million citations, and 3.6 million full-text documents, the world's most complete collection of scholarly content in the physical sciences. All are cross-referenced through authors, citations, subjects, and astronomical objects. Abstracts and the texts of major astronomy and physics journals are fully indexed and searchable through an easy to use interface that facilitates access for the professional and non-professional alike.

Integrated in its databases, the ADS provides access and pointers to a wealth of external resources, including electronic articles, data catalogs and archives. We currently link out to over 10 million resources maintained by our collaborators.

Always Remembering Earth is Our Planet and a NASA's "First Objective" in its Mission Statement Is to Study Our Home Planet

(and, via Andy Revkin, noting the Bush summary removal of Earth from the statement in February 2006 ...)

In the National Aeronautics and Space Act, which established the agency in 1958, the first objective of the agency was listed as “the expansion of human knowledge of the earth and of phenomena in the atmosphere and space.”

And since 1972, when NASA launched the first Landsat satellite to track changes on the earth’s surface, the agency has been increasingly involved in monitoring the environment and as a result has been immersed in political disputes over environmental policy...

Pale Blue Dot from Cassini July 19,2013.jpg

"Our posturings, our imagined self-importance,

the delusion that we may have some privileged position,

are challenged by this point of pale light.

Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark ....

There is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

This distant image of our tiny world...

underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another,

and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've got."
