● Facts Matter today, yesterday & tomorrow
● The March for Science was a moment made for Bill Nye / WaPo
GreenPolicy360 Siterunner / SJS:
Watching Bill is watching a torch being passed forward. A light, a love of science. Many years ago I was fortunate to edit Don Herbert, who was Mr. Wizard on NBC then Nickelodeon. I was a young editor in NYC and Don as Mr. Wizard, and a master teacher, taught me about science as we did our books. His "hands-on" Book-Labs were designed to inspire kids, to take what was in their everyday lives and to show them, scientifically, how observations and facts can bring understanding of scientific truths, theories and the "big picture".
A first- and second-generation of essential earth research from space programs monitoring earth's "vital signs" are underway, even as global security is threatened by climate change and consequences of anthropogenic degradation of the environment. The Trump administration is threatening to cut and/or eliminate many of these programs. Bill Nye has been standing up and speaking out on the consequences of ending essential earth science.
● 18 Earth Science missions currently underway"
Bill Nye, the Science Guy, was inspired by Don Herbert, who is often credited for training a "generation of scientists" responsible for the original US space program and its satellite missions to study planet earth. Bill has often spoken of how Don was one of the keys to Bill's career going forward.
Let's take a moment to tip our green hats h/t to these great science teachers who continue to inspire and work to protect generations today and in the future.

Question: Bill, what "drove" you to create the Bill Nye show? Did "Mr. Wizard" have any play?
Bill Nye: Oh, yes. As I said, Mr. Wizard, Don Herbert, sent this country to the moon. I had dinner with him a few months ago, and he told me he was very pleased my show had come along to carry the torch. It was really moving for me.
