Series of 2004
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES THROUGH THE COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES OFFICE VIGAN CITY TO ESTABLISH A MARINE TURTLE HATCHERY IN BARANGAY MINDORO, VIGAN CITY.

WHEREAS, the City of Vigan is committed to promote the conservation and protection of endangered species;

WHEREAS, certain marine turtles, particularly the green sea turtle, faces extinction because of the activities of human beings that largely contributed to the decline of their population;

WHEREAS, the City Council has just passed an ordinance prohibiting and penalizing the slaughter, killing, and the destruction of the nesting habitat of the green sea turtle;

WHEREAS, the City of Vigan deems it necessary to further solidify and strengthen its commitment in the protection and conservation of endangered marine turtles that a marine turtle hatchery be established in Barangay Mindoro;

WHEREAS, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources is the only agency of the government which can provide the necessary technical support services for the establishment of a marine turtle hatchery;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session duly assembled to request the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office Vigan City to establish a marine turtle hatchery in Barangay Mindoro;

RESOLVED FURTHER, that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office, Vigan City for their information reference and appropriate action.
