On March 16, 2003, in a special council meeting of the City of Alameda, California, Alameda joined 151 other cities and counties in passing a resolution regarding war against Iraq. 30 speakers spoke against the resolution, some of them expressing concern that Alameda would become "another Berkeley." 46 pro-resolution speakers spoke, many citing the high cost of a war against Iraq in both economic and human terms. The resolution supports the multilateral approach to the Iraq situation provided by the U.N.
