RESOLUTION NO. 2006-18
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEDONA, ARIZONA, SUPPORTING THE 2006 CITIZEN INITIATIVE "CONSERVING ARIZONA’S FUTURE"

WHEREAS, the Nature Conservancy and other educational and environmental organizations have worked together to prepare a citizen initiative for the November 2006 general election ballot entitled “Conserving Arizona’s Future” (the Initiative); and

WHEREAS, the Initiative would consolidate and preserve from development over 260,000 acres of Arizona State Trust Lands throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, within Yavapai County the areas of protection set forth in the Initiative include the Verde River Headwaters, Upper Chino Valley grasslands, Badger Peak, and Spring Creek areas,and

WHEREAS, additional areas of protection of interest to the citizens of Sedona in Coconino County include Walnut Canyon National Monument, Woody Mesa, Wupatki National Monument, Observatory Mesa, and Centennial Forest; and

WHEREAS, another 361,000 acres of trust lands would be available for purchase by adjoining towns and municipalities instead of using public monies to bid against private developers at auction,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEDONA, ARIZONA:

That the City supports the citizen initiative "Conserving Arizona’s Future", and the residents of the community are urged to study and endorse the measure.
