RESOLUTION NO. 070361
Honoring the Hip Hop Community and local Faith Leaders for their heroic efforts on March 17-18, 2007 to stop violence in Kansas City.
WHEREAS, on the weekend of March 17-18, 2007, the Hip Hop Community and Local Faith Leaders rallied together to help Councilperson Saundra McFadden Weaver at a time when the City was in a state of emergency; and
WHEREAS, due to the recent gun violence and murders in our community, tempers flared throughout the Third District; and
WHEREAS, the Hip Hop Community and local Faith Leaders helped bridge the gap between the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and the highly emotional crowds, that surely had the makings of a riot; and
WHEREAS, when the crowd tried to break through the police barricade the Rappers and the Faith Leaders stood united between the highly emotional crowd and the Kansas City Police to maintain peace and order; and
WHEREAS, when one individual pulled a gun in the midst of the crowd and try to insight them to riot, these same individuals acted in such a way that kept peace and harmony by showing themselves to be caring and concerned citizens; and
WHEREAS, this act of courage and citizen participation should be commended and duplicated in Kansas City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the Hip Hop Community and local Faith Leaders for their heroic efforts on March 17-18, 2007 to stop violence in Kansas City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to Underground Railroad with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the courage needed to stand up when the City needed them the most.
