RESOLUTION NO. 1058
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, ENDORSING AN INITIATIVE CALLED ACT (ACTIVELY COMING TOGETHER THROUGH ARTS, CULTURE AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT) TO SUPPORT A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT FOR BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN THE ARTS, CULTURE, AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT IN OUR REGION.

WHEREAS, programs in Arts, Culture, and Civic Engagement enrich the lives of our citizens, build strong bonds within our community, nurture respect for cultural differences, and lead to an involved and educated citizenry; and

WHEREAS, programs in arts, culture, and Civic Engagement have been shown to have positive economic impact on our community; and

WHEREAS, working in coordination and collaboration with other agencies, organizations, and jurisdictions that provide programs in Arts, Culture and Civic Engagement can strengthen our efforts in creating and promoting those programs, and can lead to more efficient use of our resources; and

WHEREAS, an alliance is being developed whereby the county, community college, cities, schools, arts and cultural organizations, members of the business community, and individual citizens can work together to increase access to programs in Arts, Culture, and Civic Engagement in south Snohomish County and its surrounding communities; and

WHEREAS, this alliance is called ACT, Actively Coming Together through Arts, Culture and Civic Engagement, and

WHEREAS, this alliance is poised to begin a new phase of its work, and it is appropriate for the parties involved to review and determine the extent of their future involvement in this effort

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES that we endorse the cooperation and collaboration created by ACT, and direct the members of our organization to commit the staff time and resources necessary for the processes of sharing of information and comprehensive planning that will lead to a better understanding of the opportunities and costs of expanded programs and greater community participation in the arts and cultural programs of our region.
