RESOLUTION NO. 00-046
Authorizing Green Power Purchase

The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners Finds:

a) Electricity from fossil fuels emits tons of pollutants and particulate matter into our air and water, aggravating respiratory diseases and destroying wildlife habitat. Furthermore, carbon dioxide emissions from the burning of fossil fuels make up the majority of greenhouse gasses driving global warming.

b) Renewable energy from wind produces electricity without contributing to air, water or land pollution problems. Low-impact hydroelectric facilities also do not emit air pollutants and allow for adequate passage of fish.

c) New electric power rates have been introduced that provide the County an opportunity to purchase electricity from environmentally preferred renewable resources.
