History and Mission
The Baltimore Free University was created in 1968 under the auspices of the Office of the Chaplain at Johns Hopkins University. After a two-decade sabbatical, it once again resumed operation in October 2003. BFU seeks to provide free personal enrichment courses that are open to all Baltimoreans.
Typical BFU courses include Performance Art, Yoga, Socialist Thought, Playwriting, Post-9/11 Issues, Ballroom Dance, Silk Screening, Labor Studies, Documentary Photography, Debt Management, World Poetry, etc. Course offerings vary every semester, so be sure to keep checking back with us!
