Description:

Illinois State University has a comprehensive recycling program that includes the following commodities:

Paper: Office paper, magazines, and newspapers can be recycled in the residence halls, in academic buildings, and in the campus drop box located on the corner of Normal Avenue and Locust Street. Stack unwanted telephone books neatly behind any paper recycling container. Used books can be recycled at Milner Library.

Aluminum/Plastic/Glass: Aluminum cans, plastic containers and glass may all be recycled in the residence halls, in academic buildings, in the Bone Student Center and in the campus drop box located on the corner of Normal Avenue and Locust Street.

Toner Cartridges and Cell Phones: Place old cell phones and toner cartridges from printers in the recycling kiosks available at the TechZone entrance and in the lobbies of Manchester Hall and the Carter Harris Physical Plant Office. Or, ask the front desk of your residence hall for a toner bag. Place your unwanted cell phone or toner cartridge in the plastic bags and then drop in the mail. No postage necessary! (Proceeds go to Special Olympics Illinois)

Electronics: Unwanted electronics (such as computers, monitors, and cameras) may be dropped off at TechZone in the Bone Student Center or taken to the Normal Public Works Garage located at 1301 Warriner St. in Normal. These items do not need to be in working order to be recycled. For more information on the Town of Normal's Electronics Recycling program, visit their website.

Batteries: Alkaline batteries may be placed in the recycling container provided on the second floor of the Bone Student Center (at the entrance of TechZone). Also, various battery stores in Bloomington-Normal accept used batteries.

Cardboard: There are various locations across campus (including the residence halls, academic buildings, the campus drop box located on the corner of Normal Avenue and Locust Street, and the Bone Student Center) that have cardboard recycling. Flatten all boxes and place cardboard neatly behind mixed paper recycling containers.
