RESOLUTION NO. 694-07
Resolution commending the Latino transgender community for their advocacy on behalf of the transgender and Latino communities.

WHEREAS, For years, members of the Latino transgender community have joined together in an informal network to advocate for services and bring awareness to the unique issues they face; and

WHEREAS, These Latino transgender women have worked with the Mission Council and other community based service providers to advocate for increased mental health, substance abuse and other public health services for the Latino and transgender communities; and

WHEREAS, They have spoken out at public rallies to bring attention to their situation and to let other Latino transgender people know that they are not alone; and

WHEREAS, When members of the transgender community have been victims of violence, the network has collaborated with the police to ensure that the case is properly investigated and that appropriate steps are taken to protect the Latino transgender community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the San Francisco Board of Supervisors commends the Latino transgender community for their efforts to improve the lives of all transgender people and to bring awareness to the issues facing the Latino transgender community.
