RESOLUTION NO. 07-13 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF TAOS, CREATING THE TOWN OF TAOS MAYOR'S YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE

WHEREAS The Town of Taos recognizes the importance of connecting with youth, listening to and incorporating their input on decisions and issues that effect youth;

WHEREAS The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee will create a sanctioned forum for youth to engage with municipal leaders;

WHEREAS The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee is an effective democracy incorporating young people in real dialogue about issues that matter;

WHEREAS The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee will allow municipal leaders to make better, more informed decisions with youth input incorporated; and

WHEREAS The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee will provide experiences for youth to learn and grow through participation in local government sponsored advisory board.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Taos, that the Town hereby approves:

1. The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee as a body to engage youth in dialogue with civic leaders;

2. The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee as an inclusive group of youth that represent traditional and non-traditional youth leaders from our community;

3. The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee will represent issues brought to them by individuals, groups and organizations to the Town of Taos Council with their advice, considered action and recommendations;

4. The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee will engage and respond to inquiries on issues from the Town of Taos Council with considered action and recommendations;

5. The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee will commit to collaborative work with civic leaders in a non-confrontational manner in the spirit of civic engagement;

6. The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee will operate in accordance to By-laws approved by the Town of Taos Council.

7. The Chief Adviser and Mentor to the MYAC will be a member of the Mayor's Staff and be appointed by the Mayor.

8. The Town of Taos Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee will be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Council and recommendation from the community.
