RESOLUTION NO. 24570
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ROSA ENDORSING THE USE OF CLEANER BURNING ALTERNATE FUELS
WHEREAS, motor vehicle exhaust continues to be a major source of ground level ozone and toxic air contaminants as well as other pollutants, which are major contributors to asthma and other respiratory diseases; and
WHEREAS, 4.2 million Californians suffer from lung disease, which is growing faster than most leading killers; and
WHEREAS, more than 95 percent of Californians live in areas that do not meet health based federal or state air quality standards; and
WHEREAS, passenger cars and light trucks contribute approximately 50 percent of the smog-producing gasses in the Redwood Empire region; and
WHEREAS, alternative fueled vehicles and equipment burn cleaner and emit less caustic emissions; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Rosa is a leader in the use of alternate fueled vehicles in municipal fleet service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Santa Rosa encourages Governor Gray Davis and his appointed members of the California Air Resources Board to take a strong stand on reducing tail pipe vehicle emissions from vehicles and require auto manufacturers selling vehicles in California to increase the number of alternately fueled vehicles available for purchase; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that more grant money be provided for local municipal fleets for the use of alternate fuels in their service delivery.
