RESOLUTION NO. 080091
Expressing the Citys intent to join with the Civic Council, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas City Area Development Council, Bridging the Gap, MARC, and the government of Johnson County, Kansas to endorse and implement the Strategy to Become Americas Green Region and encourage others in the region to embrace and support the Strategy.

WHEREAS, the purpose of this endorsement is to promote a regional and collaborative approach to making the Kansas City metro area Americas Green Region; and

WHEREAS, the vision of the Strategy to Become Americas Green Region (the Strategy) is to create and support a sustainable region that increases the vitality of our society, economy, and environment for current residents and future generations; and

WHEREAS, the Strategy is a living document that will be strengthened by additional public and private sector organizations and individual partners as they embrace it; and

WHEREAS, the endorsement of the Strategy will allow the City to take a key role in articulating the regions direction and goals; and

WHEREAS, implementing the Strategy will create a mechanism that allows reporting, evaluating, and assessing organizational and individual activities; and

WHEREAS, implementing the Strategy will create new resources to support activities that move the region toward sustainability; and

WHEREAS, endorsement of the Strategy supports the Mayors and City Councils long-term priority for Kansas City to become a certifiable green city; and

WHEREAS, the City wishes to collaborate with other public and private partners throughout the metro area to implement the Strategy to become Americas Green Region; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. The City endorses the Strategy to Become Americas Green Region as a mechanism to coordinate, monitor, and promote sustainability activities throughout the Kansas City region,

Section 2. The City further plans to cooperate in refining and implementing the Strategy, and to encourage others in the region to embrace and support the attainment of the strategic goals.
