Description:

The mission of Inside Allentown is to provide those who live in the City of Allentown with a better understanding of the functions and services performed by Allentown city government. Its goal is to foster cooperation and partnership between the city’s government and its citizens.

Classes will meet on six Thursday evenings, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.

Class sessions begin September 4th and continue on September 18th, October 2nd, October 16th, October 30th and November 6th. Classes will meet at various locations throughout the city.

Topics include the strong mayor form of government; how City Council works with the mayor; investment and revitalization in the city; rental housing and code compliance; fire prevention, inspection and education and response to fires; Allentown’s Emergency Management system; the Allentown Health Bureau and the services and priorities of the health bureau; the Allentown Police Department, and Police Academy and the Communication Center; Allentown Public Works including snow plowing, street repairs, traffic control, engineering and the city’s Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste; and the Department of Parks & Recreation, including trails and the city golf course.

The city is accepting applications now through August 26th. Applicants must be committed to attending all six classes. (See attached application) Please submit applications to Lauren Giguere, Deputy Director of Community and Economic Development.
