Description:
The Envirofund was established by Hamilton City Council to assist individuals, groups and community agencies to fund projects and initiatives, generally outside Council's core responsibilities, which encourage sound environmental improvement in Hamilton and contribute to the sustainability of the city.
Individuals, schools, community groups, and environmental groups can apply for funding up to $5000 for their projects. These projects typically include local environmental restoration projects, environmental seminars and workshops, environmental research, environmental education activities, and practical environmental initiatives.
Each group must provide feedback on project progress within six months of receiving funding and is expected to complete a final report detailing outcomes of the project.
What types of projects are funded?
- Local environmental restoration projects
- Environmental seminars and workshops
- Environmental research that could provide direct benefits to Hamilton's environment
- Educational or promotional activities that raise awareness about environmental issues
- Practical environmental initiatives that involve community participation or increase community involvement
Who can apply?
Individuals, schools, community groups and environmental groups, anyone can apply to the fund. However, proposals designed to generate personal or commercial profit are not eligible.
How are applications assessed?
Council staff will make initial assessment with recommendations being forwarded to a committee comprising representatives of council and the community. Applications close 31 March in the year of application.
