Description:

In 1996, a group of residents with disabilities approached City officials with an idea to create a collaborative working committee, to provide direct input in prioritizing where accessibility dollars would be spent. Thus, Access Manchester was born.

Our mission: to promote universal access through recommendations to the Board of Mayor and Alderman on accessibility legislation and issues.

Our mission of universal access encompasses true quality of life issues. Education; recreation; employment; technology; transportation; housing; accessible, alternate formats of City information; and the fundamental right to vote are all areas we have consistently worked to improve upon. Two of our City swimming pools are accessible to individuals who use wheelchairs. Several of our playgrounds and play equipment are accessible; Gill Stadium, and the JFK Ice Arena have integrated, accessible seats throughout the stands (as well as accessible rest rooms, locker rooms, concession areas, etc). City Hall, which houses 11 City departments, is fully accessible. The City Library services are now accessible to individuals with visual and cognitive impairments due to the recent installation of accessible computer software. All of our public information - including employment applications, job postings, tax water and sewer bills -- are available in electronic and other accessible formats for those who request such accommodations.

We invite you to access Manchester!
