Description:

Colgate Hunger Outreach Program (CHOP) targets issues of hunger in Madison County and strives to educate the Colgate community about the deeper issues surrounding hunger and poverty.

Group members participate directly in one or more of the following ways: working in the Friendship Inn Soup Kitchen on Monday nights, volunteering at the Hamilton Food Cupboard on Tuesdays or Thursdays, and salvaging food from various locations on campus to deliver to the soup kitchen.

Time commitment: Students generally volunteer one hour per week at the Hamilton Food Cupboard or the Friendship Inn, both are in Hamilton and walking distance from campus. Transportation is not provided.

Annual events: The group hosts fundraising and awareness events throughout the year. CHOP Hosted a Local Food Fair in October 2007, read an article and see video footage of the event here.

This event was during CHOP's annual Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. CHOP also organizes food drives at home sporting events.
