Project Green

Text:
1. Name and Purpose. Memorial University of Newfoundland Project Green is a voluntary association established to promote environmental sustainability on the university campus by encouraging, facilitating and organizing environmentally sound practices and activities.
2. Membership. General membership is open to any member of the university community and any interested university alumni upon notification of the secretary. General members shall receive mailings concerning Project Green activities, shall have opportunities to volunteer for work on specific projects, and may attend Co-ordinating Committee meetings as non-voting observers.
3. Co-ordinating Committee. The activities of the association shall be managed by a Co-ordinating Committee composed of up to a maximum of 24 of the following voting members:
- i. Two members appointed by the Council of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Students' Union.
- ii. A member appointed by the executive of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Graduate Students' Union.
- iii. Three members appointed by the executive of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty Association.
- iv. A member appointed by the executive of Local 1615 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees
- v. A member appointed by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees.
- vi. A member appointed by the Director of Facilities Management.
- vii. Two members appointed by the Dean of Student Affairs and Services.
- viii. Any such volunteer members as the Co-ordinating Committee deems to admit.
- ix. Upon invitation, members appointed by any such organizations or offices as the Co-ordinating Committee deems appropriate.
Notes:
- a. Appointed members shall be designated at the end of the winter semester, between March and April of each year.
- b. Between March and April of each year the Co-ordinating Committee shall elect an executive comprising a president, a vice-president, a secretary and a treasurer for a mandate of one year.
- c. The Co-ordinating Committee shall normally meet once every second week.
- d. The Co-ordinating Committee shall establish as many standing or ad hoc committees as it deems appropriate. Both Co-ordinating Committee members and general members may be appointed to such committees.
- e. The quorum of the Co-ordinating Committee shall be a minimum of 8 members.
4. Responsibilities of Executive Officers.
- i. The executive shall manage the affairs of the association between meetings of the Co-ordinating Committee.
- ii. The president of the Co-ordinating Committee shall be responsible for convening and chairing meetings of the Co-ordinating Committee and of any such meetings of the general membership that may be held, for preparing the agenda of meetings, for maintaining liaison with participating organizations and offices, with other environmental organizations, and with association committees, and for co-ordinating the annual designation of representatives and annual executive elections. The president shall act as the association spokesperson in relations with the public.
- iii. The vice-president of the Co-ordinatng Committee shall assist the president in the execution of her or his duties and shall replace the president at such times as the latter may be absent or unable to carry out her or his duties.
- iv. The secretary of the Co-ordinating Committee shall record and distribute minutes of meetings, shall maintain a record of members and an electronic mailing list, shall co-ordinate publicity and recruitment of members, and shall be responsible for any membership mailings and other correspondence that the Co-ordinating Committee deems appropriate.
- v. The treasurer of the Co-ordinating Committee shall collect and disburse any funds acquired by the association, shall maintain the association's financial records and bank account, shall prepare any such applications for financial assistance as the Co-ordinating Committee may deem appropriate, and shall prepare an annual financial statement which shall be made available to the Co-ordinating Committee and general membership.
- vi. The foregoing notwithstanding, the president may, with the consent of the Co-ordinating Committee, delegate to other willing members of the Co-ordinating Committee the responsibility of chairing one or more meetings of the Committee, and the secretary may delegate to other willing members of the Committee the responsibility of recording and distributing minutes of one or more meetings.
5. Amendment of this constitution
This constitution may be amended with the consent of two thirds of the appointed members of the Co-ordinating Committee.
